Cadiz Mayor Bading opens Dinagsa 2009, Bobucad Tribe regains title



Mayor Salvador G. Escalante Jr. opened the 35th Dinagsa Festival 2009 competition last January 25 at the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School, as the Bobucad Tribe bagged off the grand prize award when it bested 7 other contenders.

Bobucad romped away with a P50,000.00 cash plus trophy. It also obtained the Best in Sound and Best in Performance awards. The tribe is an entry from Barangays Bonifacio, Burgos and Caduhaan.

Second place award went to Bulawanon Tribe who received P40,000.00 cash plus trophy. It was likewise chosen as Best in Costume. The tribe comes from a cluster of Barangays Tinampaan, Zone 3 and Mabini.

The last year’s champion, Yab-Yab Doongol Tribe of Barangays Zone 5, Cadiz Viejo and VF Gustilo, settled to third placer. It got P30,000.00 cash plus trophy. It was also declared as Most Disciplined.

While the Tibanda Tribe of Barangays Tiglawigan, Banquerohan and Daga, landed fourth place; and, Querosan Tribe of Barangays Zone IV, Luna and Sicaba, fifth place. Each was given P25,000.00 and P15,000.00 cash plus trophies, respectively.

Other contesting tribes included the Majeca Tribe of Barangays Cabahug, Magsaysay and Jerusalem; Tambon Tribe of Barangays Zone I, Zone 2 and C Villacin; and Hitalon Tribe of Barangay Zone VI.

Fil-German adjudged Ginoong Cadiz 2009




A Filipino-German Fred Eisenman outwitted other nine candidates when he won the Ginoong Cadiz 2009 title last January 21, 2009 at the Don Bernardo L. Benedicto Community Center, Cadiz City.

Fred, 17, comes from Bacolod City and is a student of System Technology Institute (STI). He also bagged the Best in Interview, Mr. Talent and Mr. Negros Navigation awards.

Dexter Montalbo landed First Runner-Up who also received the Best in Swimwear and and Mr. Body Form awards. Darwin Calaguing, Second Runner-Up and Best in Resiklo;

Eric Bacomo, Third Runner-Up; and, Michael Angelo Sardual, Fourth Runner Up. Michael also got the Best in Formal Wear.

Mr. DAKI awards went to Joe Arvy Natan.

Other candidates consisted of Rian Gumban, Christian Liboon, Bejien Tanguan and Michael Acumabig.

The pageant’s chairman was Edgardo Barilea and the director was Erol Jane Bandiola. It was in cooperation with the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School./*

PNU stude crowned Dinagsa Queen 2009



Sixteen-year-old Camille Angelie Zaragoza of the Philippine Normal University - Center for Teaching and Learning was crowned Dinagsa Queen 2009 during the pageant and coronation night last January 23 at Don Bernardo L. Benedicto Community Center, this city.

Camille, a fourth year high school student from PNU who stands five feet and six inches tall, was also chosen as Best in Repartee and received a cash prize of P20,000, a sash and a trophy. She was the lovely daughter of Jude and Gina Zaragoza.

Rosebelle Reubal from Barangay Magsaysay reaped the title of Ambassadress of Tourism and received a cash incentive of P15,000. Irene Cayapado of Barangay Daga acquired the Ambassadress of Peace. She also obtained the Miss Photogenic, Face of the New Placenta, Best in Evening Gown, Miss White Castle awards. She received P10,000 and P1,000 each for minor awards.

Aiza Grace Jacildo was the First Runner-up and Rusha Ahmad Mustafa of Purok Hitalon got the Second Runner –Up. They received a cash prize of P5,000 each.

Aiza Grace, who has vital statistics of 34-24-36 bagged the Best in Swimwear and Miss Body Beautiful awards, while Rusha Ahmad Mustafa garnered the Miss Coca Cola and Best in Mythical Bird.

Other candidates were Andrea Michelle Escanuela, Jessa Joy Calaguing, Mirabel Salcedo, Nariko Elizabeth Hikata and Mickey Rose Genon. Candidates were given a seed money of P10,000 each.

The members of the board of judges were Creative Director of Bacolod Arts Ensemble Jobal Lituanias, Lin-ay Sang Negros 2007 Crister Mari Taclobos, Miss Masskara 1998 Jennifer Flores, Fashion Designer Lino Ramos, Engr. Mario Golingan from Florida, USA, and Mr. Segundo “Panoy” Cabalcar Jr., official choreographer of Bacolod Masskara Festival and Lin-ay Sang Negros. This year’s pageant was chaired and directed by Edgardo Barilea and Erol Jane Bandiola, respectively. They were assisted by the faculty and staff of the Dr. Vicente F. Cadiz City holds 7th Provincial Paralympiada



The 7th Provincial Paralympiada was recently concluded at the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School in Cadiz City where more than three hundred differently-abled children and young adults who are mentally retarded and visually and hearing impaired, coming from cities of Bacolod, Silay, Cadiz and San Carlos, displayed their potentials and grace in competitive games, team events and cultural contests.

Notwithstanding the sacrifices of the teachers of SPED Centers to ensure that these special children learn with competence while developing their maximum potentials, Dr. Xz B. Dignadice, officer-in-charge, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, underscored that she has figured out the teachers’ determination in doing the best they could only to make these special children useful and effective members of society.

Dignadice added that the teachers of SPED Centers who handle special children must receive higher compensation than those handling regular students. Furthermore, she expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Editha Negosa, retired District Supervisor who is the over-all chairman of the committee as well as to the Cadiz SPED Center teachers led by the school principal, Mrs. Noami Cabras, who are instrumental in the success of the event.

Bacolod City was hailed champion while Silay City ranked 2nd Place, Cadiz City leveled at 3rd Place and San Carlos City positioned at 4th Place.

Competitive games, team events and cultural contests included in the multi-sport event for students with physical and sensorial disabilities were: Tug-of-war, Japanese Walk, Obstacle Race, Longest Line, Paint-the-face, Thread-the-needle, Pig Hunting, Relay, Bocce, Basketball, Volleyball, Goal Ball, Cheeri and Hawaiian Dance and Choral Singing./*

Cadiz Veterinary Office holds 8th Fun Match Dog Show

More than twenty pet owners and dogs of different breeds received cash prizes, trophies, certificates, dog foods and gift packs from the Cadiz City Veterinary Office and Pfizer during the 8th Fun Match Dog Show held at the Don Bernardo Benedicto Community Center last January 24..

Sponsored by the Office of the City Veterinarian and supported by the local government of Cadiz led by the honorable city mayor Salvador G. Escalante, Jr., the event showcased several dogs belonging in distinct groups like: toy, hound, working, sporting and non-sporting, terrier, herding and puppy, where the canines displayed their grace as they work out to show their skills.

1st Prize winners for Best in Show are Norwel John Magallanes and Gerald Sotelo. 2nd Placers are Rose Sarabia and Chac Mirano while 3rd Prize winners are Dr. Homer Baloyo and Joelen Dilag, all from the cities of Cadiz and Bacolod.

Other winners for the different categories were canines owned by: Risa Lacson for the puppy, Dr. Homer Baloyo for the toy, Emily Esimos and Gerald Soteo for the hound, Rose Sarabia and Chac Mirano for the sporting, Yolanda Vargas and Joelen Dilag for the non-sporting, Jomel Bacomo and Joelen Dilag for the terrier and Emeline Teodoro for the mixed breed.

All entries received dog foods from ASVET Inc. while a mini pinscher puppy was given out through a raffle./*

Dinagsa 2009 Holds 2nd Airsoft Competition

More than a hundred men and women who made up the eight participating teams, who joined the Achilles III 2nd Airsoft Competition, filled up the ground of the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School during the event held last January 24.

The teams who rivaled to stand the test in this modern combat sport were: Airsoft Club Petron, RAM, Negros Airsoft League 1 and 2 and Call Boys, all from Bacolod; Atraka from La Castellana; Ice Water from Silay and Vipers from Talisay.

Mayor Escalante expressed his gratitude to those who respond to the city’s invitation which gave rise to the success of the event.

Received a total cash prize of P5, 000.00, a trophy and a certificate, the RAM team was hailed Speedball Champion in the battle and also adjudged Best in Offense. The Call Boys placed runner up while the Ice Water was Best in Defense./*
