Cadiz has new OIC-City Treasurer

Ma. Cristina Fuentes of Silay City was recently appointed as the new OIC-City Treasurer of Cadiz City. She assumed her post after the former city treasurer Feligande Delina retired from service last October, 2009.


She graduated her elementary education at Silay South Elementary School and secondary education at Silay Institute, as a consistent Class Valedictorian.


The new city treasurer is a graduate of the University of St. La Salle, class of 1983. A national state scholar, she was taking up BS in Accountancy.


She completed her academic requirements in Masters in Public Administration major in Local Government Administration and a grantee of the Canadian International Development Agency and the Local Government Scholarship Program.


Miss Fuentes, 47, has been working at the City Mayor’s Office of Silay City as Senior Clerk in 1986-87; Management & Audit Chief in 1987 -1989; Management and Audit Analyst IV at the City Accountant’s Office from 1989-2005. She became an acting Assistant City Treasurer in Silay City Treasurer’s Office from 2005 to 2006. She was appointed as (OIC) City Treasurer on November of 2006 to 2007 and eventually became the City Treasurer in 2007-2009.


Ma. Cristina Fuentes, born on June 26, 1962, is married to Ramonito Fuentes, also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). They were blessed with three children, Anica Mae, medical representative; Kristyl, 4th year college taking up BS in Electronic Communications Engineering (ECE) at USLS; and Benedict, 2nd year High School at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Victorias City./*

COMELEC registers 82,695 voters in Cadiz

Atty. Revo E. Sorbito, Election Officer of COMELEC in Cadiz City reported a total of 82,695 voters registered in Cadiz as of December 2009 from its 22 barangays.

Out of 494 established precincts, the city has 107 clustered precincts and total of 42 polling centers.

The top five barangays with the largest registered voters are Barangay Daga with 7,271; Luna, 5,902; Tinampaan 5,833; Caduhaan, 5,444 and Brgy. Zone 2 with 5,669 voters.

The following are the list of barangays with their respective registered voters. Brgy. Tiglawigan- 4,022; Zone 1- 4,085; Zone 4 – 4,648 ;Zone 6 – 4,026; Cabahug- 4,049; Mabini -4,748; Magsaysay- 3,148; Zone 3- 3,261; Banquerohan- 3,940; Sicaba-2,767; Jerusalem- 2,176; Cadiz Viejo – 2,890; Burgos- 2,561; Andres Bonifacio -2,803; V.F. Gustilo -1,083; Celestino Villacin- 1,4856; Zone 5- 911 registered voters.

On the other hand, there are twenty two (22) candidates who filed their certificate of candidacy for councilors, three candidates for mayoralty and two for vice mayor.

Re-electionist councilors are Dr. Abiezer Bacomo, Vicente William Tabanao, Dr. Lilia Decolongon, Roy Vijandre, Antonio Lacson III, Sofia Prado, Angel Joseph Consing and Jesmar Desuyo. Other candidates for councilors are Wilfredo Cervantes, Pal Guanzon ,Jun Musa, Bamboo Puey Hinolan, Atty. Fernan Briones, Teodoro Delos Santos, Jimmy Delos Santos, Atty. Corazon Diploma, Enrique Lamoste,Jr., Jocelyn Magbanua, Marcelo Metuda, Dante Ramos, Romulo Revalez and Miguel “Mike” Ybanez.

Mayoralty candidates are Dr. Patrick Escalante, Manuel Garganera and Atty. Edgardo Acuña while re-electionist Samson “Jongben” Mirhan and Edgardo Varela are two contenders for vice mayor./*

Cadiz bags top grosser in Panaad Trade Fair 2010

Cadiz City consolidated sales was declared as the top grosser and received P50,000 cash during the 17th Panaad sa Negros Festival Trade Fair which run from March 20-27, 2010 at Brgy. Mansilingan in Bacolod City. The sales had reached up to P 699,918.15 followed by top three grosser: Calatrava (P339,048.00); San Carlos City (P381,685.00) and Moises Padilla (P184,146.00).

Jesus Diez and Shen Villena, Panaad coordinators for Technology Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) affirmed that the total sales were the consolidation of income from ice cream, cane juice, Tukib products and dried fish. Among the top ten buyable products were Danggit, Locus from medium class B to class C “tunaw”, Gumaa pakas, fish tocino or red tocino, Tabagak with scales, Lawayan, Dilis “gurayan”, Palad flakes, and ginamos “hipon”.

Cadiz float was the champion in Float Competition that outshined 10 other cities and 18 muncipalities. Don Salvador Benedicto topped the municipality category. It was decorated by Tukib Group of Artists led by Victor Parina

In the Specialty Food division, Second Place was Cadiz fish brittle dried boneless dilis with caramel flavor made by Pauline Porras, Talisay City SEA-K Nenita’s banana chips took the first runner-up and Yacin wine of Sr. Alama Mangao from San Carlos City was adjudged as Best Product.

Other winners were Wilmarie Castilo’s console table with mirror was awarded as best Product in Home Furnishing. Sarah Bernales’ rocking chair of Pulupandan and Gerry Gerandoy’s Molavi mini bar with chairs and accessories garnered the first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

Silay City booth was named as Panaad sa Negros 2010 Best Destination Pavilion. It shows replica of ancestral houses, 1920 to 1950 gowns, assorted coins from different generations and Rizaliana collection from the late Jose Corteza Lacson. The booth was judged according to physical attraction and presentation, marketing and promotion value and level of service the people manning the booth.

The city’s contestants to different event categories were: Romar Banyola, Negros Music Festival Pop Song; Extreme Fusion, Hip-hop Dance Contest; Boyet Diola, Composo; Jergens Love “Troy”Lopez, Song Writing; Jeruel Lopez, composer; PNU Dance Troupe, Folkdance Maria Clara Category; and, Bobucad Tribe, Festival Contest./*

Star Ka Sa Cadiz 2010 discovers the City's best

“Save the last for best”.

That’s how Mayor Salvador G. Escalante Jr. remarked on the grand finals of the ‘Star Ka Sa Cadiz 2010” last January 30, at the jam-packed Don Bernardo L. Benedicto Community Center in Cadiz City.

“This is the best of all’, Mayor Escalante declared, referring to the grand event. He admired of the show’s highly-creative, innovative and artistic presentation.

According to Mayor, the event was innovated with splendid direction, including technical details on stage and on the over-all production.

He also thanked the staff and personnel of the City Information Office for the tremendous success the event has ever achieved. “It has added push to the 36th Dinagsa Festival 2010”, he added.

The CIO and a pool of creative minds employed some multimedia outputs with a touch of uniqueness to the “Star” production.

The CIO has been the city government department being tapped to plan out, implement and supervise the program on the “Star Ka Sa Cadiz 2010” for five- month duration. It is the longest-running program the City ever has ever initiated so far.

As cultural and information project of the City Government of Cadiz, Mayor Escalante Jr. launched the “Star Ka Sa Cadiz 2010” last September 5, 2009 and culminated during the 36th Dinagsa Festival 2010 on January 30, 2010.

It is a weekly contest on three categories, namely, hip-hop dance, singing and name-a-song. All weekly winners competed in the monthly finals, and all monthly winners competed in the grand finals.

The grand winners on singing contest are: Romar Banyola (Champion), Rowela Cordova (First Place), Joyce Anne Barbas (Second Place), Thesalie Joy Leonoras (Third Place), Michelle Calderon (Fourth Place), and Marvy Esperancilla (Fifth Place).

Hip-hop dance contest: Fusion X-treme (Champion), Delta Heat Waves (First Place), Disciples of Zidac (Second Place), PNU Dance Guild (Third Place) and, Techno Sight (Fourth Place). Name-a-song contest: Al Contreras (Champion), Jojo Banez, Ruben Pedrano and Tyrone Bermejo.
