FILIPINA-American beauty and darling of the crowd Angela Joy Johns who represented the Tibanda tribe was crowned Dinagsa Queen 2011 by City Mayor Patrick Escalante assisted by First Lady Marilou Escalante and Dinagsa Queen 2010 Reina Amor Gomez during the pageant night of Dinagsa Queen last January 29, 2011 at Don Bernardo Benedicto Community Center.
Johns, 16, a third year honor student from the Holy Infant Academy (HIA), bested 8 other candidates and win P20, 000.00 in cash and trophy. Aside from winning the title, Johns also reaped several corporate awards such as GMIX choice award, Best in Production Number, Best in Casual Attire, Ms. Coke Diet, Ms. Boardwalk, Ms Sundance, Miss Avon, Miss Natasha, Ms. New Placenta, People’s Choice Award and Miss GMA Kapuso 2011. She also captured the Best in Evening Gown, Best in Talent and Best in Swimwear with cash prizes of P1, 000.00 each categories and trophy.
Candidate No.1 Aubrey Grace Baruc, a nursing student from the Colegio de San Agustin, was also named Miss Smart bagged the first runner –up. She represented the Tres Marias Tribe and received P15, 000 and trophy while candidate No. 4 Stephanie Monserate, a college student from Phil. Normal University who represented the Hitalon Tribe finished 2nd runner up and received a cash prize of P10, 000.00 plus trophy.
The top three finalists were asked to answer the final question that If they were given the chance to change one part of the history of Cadiz what will it be and If not what are the significant part they would like to change and why? Johns got the judges nod and audience impact when she said that If I have the chance to change something in the history of Cadiz it will be the existence of corruption for I believe that if there is no corruption, there will be no poverty and if I cannot change anything, I will just simply recall the days when the whales landed in the shores of Cadiz City, the reason why we called Cadiz City as the City of Whales”.
Contestant No. 7 Rohnna Mae Yee of Majeca Tribe acquired Miss Dynamic and Miss NN Princess while Bobucad Tribe representative candidate No. 2 Ira Cris Igca was named Miss Pepsi Cola and Miss Olive C.
Miss Glutamine and SMB Most Favorite Lass were obtained by Rovelyn Elmission of Tribu Eta, Andrea De Guzman of Bulawanon Tribe achieved the Miss Photogenic and Miss Fashion Exchange awards and candidate no.8 Russel Bano of Yab-yab Doongol Tribe got the Miss Congeniality award.
The panels of Judges were fashion designer Lino Ramos, Cornelio Aiz Puro freelance Stage Director, Production Designer and Pageant Artistic Director for Pasalamat Queen and Ginoong Pasalamat in La Carlota City, Agnes Marie Chang reigning Masskara Queen 2010, Joy Famini Tourism and Information officer of Victorias City , Oyen Neltropp, a former jazz and Aerobics teacher and choreographer ,Kyoshi Shimada a Japanese national in charge of Tourism promotion for Japanese Markets for west Japan, Engr. Ryan Golingan, Dr. Ma.Xenia Ching Guanzon Physical Education teacher and internal Campus Sports Coordinator of University of St. La Salle and Alma Annalie Jago also a PE teacher and former moderator of St. La Salle Pep Squad in Bacolod City.
PNU Prof. Randyll Villones was the pageant’s director and choreographer. The hosts of this year’s pageant were Rod Simon from wild FM and Antonio Esmolo an English school teacher from SPED training Center. The show was under the supervision of the Tourism Office in cooperation with the management of Lasaltech.
