Former City Councilor Salvacion Tabanao, the wife of the late City Mayor Vicente Tabanao passed away when she succumbed to multiple organ failure caused by the infection in the central nervous system probable to TB Meningitis at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City last April 6, 2011.
Tabanao, 80, had served the City Government of Cadiz for 3 consecutive terms from July 1, 1998 to June 30, 2007.
The City Council had passed a resolution expressing deep sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of the late Councilor Tabanao citing that the latter had served the people of Cadiz with genuine devotion and unconditional commitment as a public school teacher and a public servant as member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, being one of the few city councilors to serve for three consecutive terms.
As a teacher, she unconditionally dedicated her knowledge and God-given skills to the children of Brgy. Tinampaan Elementary School and Cadiz Central Elementary School.
As a public servant, she authored, co-authored and supported various resolutions and ordinances that made an impact in the governance and lives of the people of Cadiz City.
During her stint as public servant in 2004 -2007, she was the committee chairman on Senior Citizens and Veterans Affair; Committee on Women, Men, Widow, Widower and family; chairman on Commerce Trade and Industry; and, chairman on Tourism, Parks and Beautification.
Among the resolutions and ordinances authored by Councilor Tabanao were the naming of road from the Bank of Hitalon River to the road going to Barangay Tiglawigan as “Pedro E. Ramos Sr. Avenue,” naming the bridge connecting reclamation area and Barangay Banquerohan as “Vicente C.Tabanao Bridge”, naming the road from Abelarde Extension facing Public Market going to reclamation area as “Congressman Armando C. Gustilo Avenue”, and naming the city road from facing west f Public Market connecting Abelarde Street Extension and Magsaysay facing the cockpit named as “Capt. Heracleo Villacin Street” while the right side of Cabahug Street going to Villa Victoria up to Purok Pag-asa was named as “Joaquin Ledesma Street”. She also authored the construction of Senior Citizens Pavilion, urging the congress to enact into law the house bill 3773 known as ‘Responsible Parenthood and Population Management Act of 2005.
Her remains were laid to rest in Cadiz City Cemetery on April 18, 2011, Monday, at 2:00 PM. She was survived by her children Sherwin, incumbent city councilor Vicente William Tabanao, Janet, May, Rosel and Vincent./*
