The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cadiz City had approved en masse the passage of SP Resolution No. 2012-78, series of 2012, approving a financial assistance of  P100,000 per LGU to the city of Guihulngan, towns of La Libertad, Tayasan, Ayungon, and Jimalaud in Negros Oriental that were hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake on February 7, 2012.

            Mayor Patrick G. Escalante, chairman of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council quickly responded to the call for assistance from the affected LGUs which the earthquake had left terribly devastated leaving 52 people dead, properties destroyed, buildings and roads totally wrecked and several families homeless.

            Guihulngan City, La Libertad, Tayasan, Ayungon and Jimalaud were placed under the state of calamity. Aside from financial assistance, canned foods, rice, clothing and supply of water were sent over by government employees, private individuals and establishments to above-named places./*
