The 7th Provincial Paralympiada was recently concluded at the Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School in Cadiz City where more than three hundred differently-abled children and young adults who are mentally retarded and visually and hearing impaired, coming from cities of Bacolod, Silay, Cadiz and San Carlos, displayed their potentials and grace in competitive games, team events and cultural contests.
Notwithstanding the sacrifices of the teachers of SPED Centers to ensure that these special children learn with competence while developing their maximum potentials, Dr. Xz B. Dignadice, officer-in-charge, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, underscored that she has figured out the teachers’ determination in doing the best they could only to make these special children useful and effective members of society.
Dignadice added that the teachers of SPED Centers who handle special children must receive higher compensation than those handling regular students. Furthermore, she expressed her gratitude to Mrs. Editha Negosa, retired District Supervisor who is the over-all chairman of the committee as well as to the Cadiz SPED Center teachers led by the school principal, Mrs. Noami Cabras, who are instrumental in the success of the event.
Bacolod City was hailed champion while Silay City ranked 2nd Place, Cadiz City leveled at 3rd Place and San Carlos City positioned at 4th Place.
Competitive games, team events and cultural contests included in the multi-sport event for students with physical and sensorial disabilities were: Tug-of-war, Japanese Walk, Obstacle Race, Longest Line, Paint-the-face, Thread-the-needle, Pig Hunting, Relay, Bocce, Basketball, Volleyball, Goal Ball, Cheeri and Hawaiian Dance and Choral Singing./*
