FOR THE FIRST TIME in more than ten years Cadiz bet Angela Joy Johns outshined 23 stunning ladies from different cities and municipalities, won the First runner up during the search for Lin-ay sa Negros 2011 before the jam-packed crowd at the Panaad Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City last April 8, 2011. She brought home cash prize of 40,000, sash, trophy and 75% scholarship for one year in any schools. She was also chosen as Miss Placenta 2011 and received P5, 000 worth of purchase for Placenta products.

Lin-ay sang Hinobaan Ann Marie Malayo was crowned Lin-ay sang Negros 2011 by Senator Jingoy Estrada and Lin-ay sang Negros 2010. She received P60, 000 a sash, trophy and 100% one year scholarship in any schools within the country .Early in the competition she received two special awards namely Best in Gown and Best in Swim wear. Rounding up to the top three finalists was Marie Catherine Abayon, Lin-ay sang Bacolod who garnered P20, 000, a sash, trophy and 50% one year scholarship in any school. She was also given the title as Miss Sunstar Bacolod, Miss Energy Development Corp 2011 and Miss SM City Bacolod.

During the final interview, Angela was asked about poverty reduction which stated that “the provincial government plans to give the entire neighborhood a piglet for each family to grow and sell for profit .The money that they earn will somehow help reduced poverty; however there is an opposition from most of them due to the issue of sanitation. What will you do?

She replied that “first of all I am a negrense and being a youth one way of helping the government is by advocacies and teaching other families about the Negros first plan. I will also inform other people that this will help in their livelihood and the sanitation issue will just depend on the recipients of the piglets. In supporting the programs of the governor, this could help improve the quality of life of the negrenses and it would give us the opportunity to be effective and become a progressive nation”. Her response was punctuated with thunderous applause from the audience.

Candidates who were included in the ten finalists were Lin-ay sang Candoni, Hinobaan, Pulupandan, Talisay, San Carlos, Cadiz, Bacolod, Victorias, Binalbagan and Silay City.

Other candidates who received the special awards were Lin-ay sang Binalbagan was chosen as the Miss Fit and Rite from Del Monte, Miss Princes of Negros Navigation and Miss Island Leading Channel; Lin-ay sang Candoni won the Miss Olive C and Miss Kapuso.

Miss Congeniality was garnered by Lin-ay sang San Carlos while Lin-ay sang Victorias obtained the Miss Super Ferry. Miss Photogenic was captured by Lin-ay sang Kabankalan. The Miss Body Salon went to Lin-ay sang La Carlota and Lin-ay sangTalisay reaped the Best in Fluvial Costume.

The pageant night was attended by provincial officials headed by Governor Alfredo Maranon, Provincial Board members, City Mayor Patrick Escalante, Vice Mayor Samson Mirhan, city officials, city mayors of other cities and municipalities and their officials, Senator Jingoy Estrada, judges and thousands of spectators./*
