The Cadiz City’s Dinagsa Festival recently bagged the national award as the country’s 2010 Best Tourism Event First Runner Up in the Festival Category – City Level during the 11th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) last October 3-6, 2010 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center in Olongapo City, Zambales.

Mayor Patrick Escalante has prided himself when he, along with Tourism Officer Juanily Pedrosa, Councilors Wilfredo Cervantes and Denia Hinolan, received the plaque of appreciation on the awarding ceremony. Cervantes and Hinolan are chairman and co-chairman on Committee on Tourism, respectively.

Dinagsa Festival was among the four festivals in Negros Occidental nominated to represent the province and the region in the nationwide search for 2010 Best Tourism Event – Festival Category.

The Dinagsa Festival is held every last Sunday and/ or week of January. It has enjoyed and continue to enjoy through the years an influx of local and international tourists who take pleasure in street dance with high-spirited “ati-warriors” and join the flock of people in the uniquely “lamhitanay”.

The Best Tourism Event is conducted yearly by the ATOP. It has three categories: cultural, festival and, sports and wellness. Each category also has city and municipal levels. It is open among festivals from around the country.
