The Philippine team represented by a group of mentally impaired (MI) children from the SPED Training Center in Cadiz City headed by City Schools Superintendent Dr. Xz Dignadice, got the over-all champion to the 3rd Special Olympics Asia Pacific Bocce Competition held in Brunei Darussalam last September 30 - October 3, 2010.

The Bocce competition which is similar to bowling is aimed to help the individual with intellectual disabilities to be more confident and lead healthier and productive lifestyle as well as becoming respected members of the society through sports training and competition.

The three mentally impaired children who got three golds in single event were Lizamel Dayon, Mc Merril John Derrama and Evangeline Sembrano. While John Brian Menosa garnered the bronze medal; Andrea Descalsota acquired fourth place; and Jandel Abonales landed on the fifth place.

In double team event, the group through Lyn Rabuya, playing coach and regular player Liza Mel Dayon and John Brian Menosa captured three gold medals; Mc Merill Derrama and Evangeline Sembrano obtained 2 silver medals; and, Andrea Descalsota and Jandel Abonales received bronze medal awards.

The Cadiz team who got the champion in the ‘First National Bocce Competition Presidents Cup 2010” at Amoranto Stadium in Quezon City last February 25-26, 2010 was automatically chosen to represent the country in Brunei. They outlasted the teams from 10 regions such as NCR North, NCR South, NCR Central, Davao Region, La Union, CALABARZON, Bacolod City, Iloilo City and Cebu City.

During the four-day event, the team successfully defeated the players from Singapore, Pakistan, Brunei A and B, New Zealand, Malaysia East and Malaysia West.

The team was accompanied by its coaches and trainors Armi Jarina, Noami Cabras, Lyn Rabuya, Dr. XZ Dignadice head of the delegation./*
