City Mayor Salvador G. Escalante Jr., together with the City Officials and World War II veterans, led the 111th Independence Day celebration with a theme “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan” at Don Bernardo L. Benedicto Community Center last June 12, this year.

Mayor Escalante Jr., in his message, said “we continue to celebrate this day because of men and women who fought hard and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country against foreign invasion”. He further urged the people to continue the gallantry of the veterans and to continue to fight what they have started the fight against poverty, the fight against criminality, illiteracy and the fight against corruption.

“By this, we’ll have to show that the freedom they have given us will always be part of our daily life and in so doing, we are showing them that we have appreciated their heroic deed”, the Mayor said.

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Xz Dignadice gave a one-day service credit to the teachers who attended the celebration.

World War II Veterans Post Commander Enriqueto Gomez coveyed his message said “we have to thank America for giving us independence. She insures that we will have these in full from Spain; insures that the Japanese relinquished the same to us and finally handed to us the baton of this joyous affair every 12th of June”.

He extended his heartfelt thank to the City Mayor and City Officials for their continued support and assistance to bring maximum services to their operations and allied services, despite of the scarcities of funds and resources in the government.

Wreath laying and floral offerings were rendered by the City Officials and WWII veterans at the Veterans Monument.

Councilors Angel Joseph Consing, Dr. Abiezer Bacomo, William Tabanao, Roy Vijandre, Jesmar Desuyo, Dr. Lilia Decolongon, Wilfredo Cervantes, Sofia Prado, SK President Katrina Gustilo, Chief Inspector Noel Mana-ay, Comm. Teodoro de los Santos, BJMP and Bureau of Fire chiefs, students and teachers from different districts and government employees, were among those who attended the celebration./*
